Translation
I translate fiction and non-fiction books from German into English, for publishers including Canongate and Pushkin Press. I also provide sample translations for a number of German and Austrian publishers, and work with clients in the factual entertainment, travel and fine arts sectors. I’m a member of the UK’s Society of Authors and the Emerging Translators’ Network.
Literary
translation.
I have translated a number of books from German into English, both fiction and non-fiction. My most recent translation is Teresa Präauer’s German Book Prize-shortlisted novel Cooking in the Wrong Century, published by Pushkin Press.
In May 2025, my translation of Austrian author Tanja Paar’s novel The Trembling World was published by Paradoxum.
My translation of A History of Women in 101 Objects by Annabelle Hirsch is available in the UK from Canongate and in the USA from Crown. Featured in The Bookseller and selected as a Waterstones Best Book of 2023, it was also released as a groundbreaking audiobook read by 101 women, including Margaret Atwood, Gillian Anderson and Olivia Colman.
I regularly translate samples for German-language publishers – many of these are brilliant books still looking for a publisher on the English market. Recent titles about which I’m particularly excited include Sophia Klink’s debut Kurile Lake, a haunting work of eco-fiction (FVA); and Coming, a unique collaborative text about female* sexuality and desire by writing collective Liquid Center (DuMont).

I began my translation career on commercial projects, and have built up experience working in the factual entertainment, environmental, travel, food and fine arts sectors particularly. I continue to work for a number of corporate and individual clients, many of whom I have been with for years, translating texts that range from film treatments to exhibition catalogues, hotel websites to wine lists, press releases to annual reports.
Consultancy.
I edit and review translations primarily from German, but also other languages, and work as a freelance consultant for organisations such as New Books in German. I’m a regular contributor to translation-focused publications including The Riveter and the Goethe-Institut’s ‘Literary Tastings’ blog.
I am also available to write reader reports on German-language titles under consideration by publishers and literary agencies. I have a particular knowledge of contemporary Austrian fiction and a sound understanding of the English-speaking market for translated literature from all languages.
